Teens BJJ
Like all of our classes, our Brazilian Jiujitsu for teens class is fun, high-energy and teaches the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiujitsu. Each class focuses on an effective takedown and then movements, drills and techniques to escape, evade and control your opponent on the ground.
This class is great for teenagers who may not by overly athletic and are looking to try a fun, self defence.

We run two BJJ classes a week for teens. Wednesday is a no-gi class. This is where you wear a t-shirt and shorts and then the friday class is a gi class where you wear the kimono. This means that grappling on Wednesday is a bit more slippery which makes your opponent hard to hold, whereas the kimo on the Friday class gives you some nice handles to hold while grappling.
What age is Teens BJJ for?
Our Teens BJJ class is for kids aged 10 and older. However, if they have trained previously then we could potentially squeeze them in. Please get in touch with us to discuss.
If your child is 14 and older then we could potentially slide them into an adults class, however it all depends on how big/tall they are.
Whats the difference between Judo and BJJ ?
BJJ and Judo are very similar. BJJ focuses on ground fighting while Judo primarily focuses on throws and takedowns. However, you will find that both our Judo and BJJ classes focus on both of these elements. The only major difference is that in BJJ we teach child strangles and armbars - this is the main reason why we teach it to 10 years and older.
If this sounds crazy, it's really not. Safety is a major priority for us. We teach submissions in a slow, controlled manner to ensure that the students understand it and are safe the entire time.
What should my child wear to a BJJ class?
In the no-gi BJJ class, please wear a pair of shorts (with no pockets) and a rash guard or T-shirt. For the gi classes the coaches will give your child a spare uniform for them to wear.
In addition, mouthguards are very common in BJJ. So if you are planning on your child participating in BJJ then feel free to bring a mouth guard along.

What should my child wear to a Judo class?
For the gi classes the coaches will give your child a spare uniform for them to wear. So please wear a t shirt/rashie and a pair of pants (like trackies).

Will my child get hurt? Is it safe?
Safety is always our number one priority and we do our utmost to ensure everyone has a safe and fun experience. However Judo and BJJ are contact sports and injuries do occur.

How often do we need to come to class and when are your classes?
Our programs fit into almost any schedule. Some kids train once a week and others do three to four sessions a week. Although every child is different, we recommend 1 session a week for 6-7 years olds and then multiple sessions from aged anywhere between 8-10 years of age. Remember "the more you do, the better you get."
